Overview

The Utility Maintenance Mechanic performs general maintenance and minor repairs to building systems, equipment, and facilities. The position supports the operation and maintenance of heating and ventilation equipment, mechanical systems, electrical components, lighting, plumbing/sanitary systems, and building structures. The Utility Maintenance Mechanic works independently on routine assignments and assists maintenance mechanics and other skilled trades personnel as directed.

 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on heating and ventilation equipment, including fans, vacuum pumps, air compressors, vents, ductwork, and associated components.
  • Inspect equipment and building systems to identify maintenance needs and operating deficiencies.
  • Adjust valves, controls, and other mechanical components as required to support proper equipment operation.
  • Monitor equipment operation and record gauge readings and other operating information.
  • Prepare and complete repair orders, maintenance tickets, and related documentation.
  • Assist maintenance mechanics and skilled trades personnel with preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and equipment servicing.
  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs to building structures and mechanical systems.
  • Perform minor electrical maintenance and repairs within the employee's qualifications and authorized scope of work.
  • Replace lamps, lighting components, and other building fixtures as required.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs to plumbing and sanitary systems.
  • Use common hand tools, power tools, testing equipment, and maintenance equipment safely and properly.
  • Maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in a clean and safe condition.
  • Follow applicable safety procedures, work practices, and site requirements.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as assigned, provided the employee possesses any license or certification required to perform the work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of one (2) years of experience in facility maintenance, building maintenance, general construction, or a related trade
  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance practices
  • Experience performing minor repairs and preventive maintenance on building equipment and systems
  • Ability to read gauges, equipment indicators, basic technical instructions, work orders, and maintenance documentation
  • Ability to identify basic equipment problems and perform routine troubleshooting and repairs within the position's authorized scope
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and equipment commonly associated with facilities maintenance
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned work orders accurately
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a multidisciplinary facilities maintenance team.
  • Additional trade-related certifications are preferred.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

 

DoD Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

 

Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance. In addition, a satisfactory background screening, negative drug test, positive references and proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States are required.
