Job Summary:
The Community Center Assistant supports the Community Center Coordinator in opening and maintaining the Kelly House Community Center and creating engaging community activities in the community of Tatitlek. The Assistant helps oversee the facility, ensures a positive and safe environment for all participants, and assists in implementing a variety of programs and activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facility Support:
- Assist in opening and maintaining the Kelly House Community Center.
- Help ensure the facility is clean and sanitized daily.
- Aid in maintaining utilities, including power cards and refueling tanks.
- Activity Support:
- Help supervise recreation areas to ensure a positive and safe atmosphere for all participants.
- Assist in maintaining accountability of participants and equipment.
- Support adherence to standard safety practices.
- Program Implementation Support:
- Assist in implementing creative arts & crafts programs and activities on a monthly basis.
- Help promote and participate in cultural activities such as Native Youth Olympics (NYO) and community events.
- Coordination Support:
- Assist in coordinating with the Tatitlek School principal to make the school available for open gym two hours a night.
- Support review of expectations and school facility use guidelines.
- Help complete Tatitlek School cleanup checklist after each use of the facility.
- Reporting and Communication:
- Assist in providing daily logs, weekly reports, and monthly inventory checks to the President of CMF.
- Support the Recreation and Activities Coordinator in reporting to the Tatitlek Corporation Shareholder Services Manager.
- Attend local IRA meetings with the Coordinator to listen and gain knowledge from community members and help develop areas of need.
- Inventory and Supplies Management:
- Assist in maintaining inventory of Kelly House equipment, supplies, and games.
- Additional Duties:
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Recreation and Activities Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Experience in community youth activities, or recreational management is an asset.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of local culture and community is an asset.
- Must pass a background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and supervise activities for extended periods.
Work Environment:
- This position primarily works in a community center setting, with some activities conducted outdoors or in the Tatitlek School.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:
As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
