Overview

Job Summary:

 

The primary goal of the Community Center Coordinator is to open and maintain the Kelly House Community Center and create engaging community activities. The Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the facility, ensuring a positive and safe environment for all participants, and implementing a variety of programs and activities. The Coordinator will work closely with the school principal and other community leaders to develop and maintain a robust schedule of activities and events for the community.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facility Management:
    • Open and maintain the Kelly House Community Center.
    • Ensure the facility is clean and sanitized daily.
    • Work with Village Services Coordinator to ensure utilities are running, including keeping power cards funded and refueling tanks.
    • Coordinate with maintenance personnel when maintenance is needed.
  2. Supervise Recreation Areas:
    • Ensure a positive and safe atmosphere for all participants.
    • Maintain accountability of participants and equipment.
    • Adhere to standard safety practices.
  3. Program Implementation:
    • Implement creative arts & crafts programs and activities on a monthly basis.
    • Promote and participate in cultural activities such as Native Youth Olympics (NYO) and community events.
  4. Activity Coordination:
    • Work with the school principal to gain insight for after-school or weekend activities schedule for elementary students.
    • Coordinate with the Tatitlek School principal to make the school available for open gym two hours a night.
    • Review expectations and school facility use guidelines.
    • Complete Tatitlek School cleanup checklist after each use of the facility.
  5. Reporting and Communication:
    • Provide daily logs, weekly reports, and monthly inventory checks to the President of CMF.
    • Attend local IRA meetings to listen and gain knowledge from community members and help develop areas of need.
  6. Inventory and Supplies Management:
    • Maintain inventory of Kelly House equipment, electronics, supplies, and games.
  7. Additional Duties:
    • Perform related duties as assigned by the President of CMF.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional education in recreation, community development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in community programming, youth activities, or recreational management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of local culture and community is an asset.
  • Must pass a background check.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and supervise activities for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • This position primarily works in a community center setting, with some activities conducted outdoors or in the Tatitlek School.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

 

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
