Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Serves as a Public Health Laboratory Technician performing high complexity sample analysis in accordance with the current environmental/biological scope and/or accredited under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program (CLIP).
- Perform high complexity tests that are authorized by the Clinical Laboratory Senior Scientist.
- Complete demonstrations of capabilities as dictated by the laboratory.
- Shall follow all laboratory policies and Standing Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- As outline in 42 CFR 493, the testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance and for reporting test results.
- Each individual performs only those high complexity tests that are authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill commensurate with the individual’s education, training or experience, and technical abilities.
- Each individual performing high complexity testing must:
- Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens;
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed;
- Follow the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance;
- Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor, technical supervisor, clinical consultant, or director;
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Education and Experience:
The Public Health Clinical Laboratory Technicians must qualify under one of the following options:
- Be a doctor of medicine, doctor of osteopathy, or doctor of podiatric medicine licensed to practice medicine, osteopathy, or podiatry in the State in which the laboratory is located.
- Have earned a doctoral, master’s or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.
- Have education and training equivalent to an associate’s degree that includes at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either:
- 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or
- 24 semester hours of science courses that include: six (6) semester hours of chemistry, six (6) semester hours of biology; and twelve (12) semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination;
AND
- Have laboratory training that includes either of the following:
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS; or
- At least 3 months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
- Be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks duration and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).

Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse and multi-line telephone system.
Additional Qualifying Factors:
Must have a satisfactory background screening, negative drug test, positive references and proof of identity and legal authorization to work in the United States and for TTI are required.
